From Concept to Composition

Artistic design and precise installation for your kitchen’s architectural focal point.

Beyond the Showroom

A backsplash is more than a surface, it is the architectural focal point of your home. Most homeowners fear that a tile choice that looked perfect in a showroom will feel "off" in their own light, or that a careless layout will break the room's rhythm.

I treat your kitchen as a unique composition. By accounting for your specific geometry, lighting, and textures, I ensure the final result isn't just an addition—it’s a seamless transformation.

The Stone Sage Process

  1. Site Analysis & Layout I evaluate the specific geometry of your kitchen to plan the installation. This includes solving for outlet placement, cabinet transitions, and symmetry before any tile is set.

  2. Project Mockup (Optional Add-on) I provide a 14-inch physical mockup using your selected tile and grout. This allows you to see how the materials look in your home’s actual lighting. The cost of this standalone service is credited back to you if you move forward with the full installation.

  3. Installation I manage the project with a focus on precision and cleanliness. All power tool cutting is done outdoors to keep your kitchen clear of dust, while manual cuts are handled indoors to keep the project moving efficiently.

Precision From the First Measurement

A quality installation is determined during the planning phase. During our 60-minute site analysis, I evaluate the technical requirements of your project to ensure the design is structurally sound and visually balanced.

We will review:

  • Structural Geometry: Checking for level surfaces to ensure a lasting foundation for your stone.

  • Transition Points: Planning for clean edges and eliminating the awkward gaps often found in high-volume work.

  • Layout Verification: Confirming exactly how the tile will sit on your walls before the first piece is laid.

The Story Behind the Stone

Most homeowners feel caught between two extremes: contractors who provide a solid structure but lack an eye for detail, or designers who create a vision that isn’t technically sound. You shouldn't have to choose between a kitchen that lasts and a space that inspires.

I founded Stone Sage to bridge that gap. My approach is built on two specific disciplines:

  • Engineering Precision: My background in software engineering drives my focus on "invisible architecture." I prioritize the logic and geometry that ensure an installation is technically flawless.

  • Artisan Intentionality: As a songwriter, I understand how rhythm and balance make a layout feel intentional. I ensure the final finish is as aesthetically harmonious as it is structurally sound.

I have moved away from high-volume production to focus on singular, high-stakes projects. When we work together, I apply a high standard of accountability to every detail of your installation.

Our Principles

  • Intentional Design: Every project is a unique layout. If the geometry isn’t mathematically balanced, the job isn’t done.

  • Material Respect: Stone and tile are natural materials. I handle them with the technique they deserve to highlight their natural beauty.

  • Relentless Precision: From the initial layout to the final mitered corner, I am personally responsible for the integrity of the work.
